What Is Collected & How It Is Used

• Account Information: Email and nickname.
  • Your email address – solely to create, manage and authenticate your game account.
  • Your nickname – to display leaderboards. Its changeable in the settings (applies to past entries).
  • When you sign up with Google account your name might be suggested as nickname.
• Gameplay Data: Your guesses, scores, levels, and round history.
  • To track your progress, display on leaderboards (nickname only), and show you interesting statistics.
• Technical Data: The database host collects technical data.
  • Supabase collects IP address, browser/OS, and request time stamps. It is stored in the EU and only used internally for security, fraud-prevention and error-diagnostics. It is never used to identify you personally.
• Feedback: The message, subject, optionally entered email, and user id.
  • When you use the "give feedback" on the bottom of the page to send a message. This is linked to your user account to help understand the context of your message.

Sharing Your Information

• Game Leaderboards: Your in-game nickname and game stats (player scores, level, points, accuracy) are visible on leaderboards. Your email is never public.
• Game Insights: Interesting exploratory analyses using anonymized, aggregated gameplay data might be posted on this website or published in an article. This project is for fun and inspiration.
• Service Providers: Supabase is used for database hosting and user authentication.
• Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect rights and safety we share information.

Your Google email and profile name are used only for account purposes within Cite.quest and are not sold or transferred to other third parties beyond the service provider (Supabase) for authentication.

Other Important Bits

• Your Choices: You can change your nickname in the settings; this will also apply to old Leaderboard entries. You can manage your Google data settings via your Google account. You can choose to 'delete' your account in the Settings. This will change your nickname to 'deleted_user' and log you out. Your gameplay data (scores, round history) will be retained in the database but will no longer be associated with your original nickname on leaderboards. This action is generally reversible by contacting us. For complete data erasure, please contact us.
• Children's Privacy: Cite.quest is for users 13+ (or your local age of consent). We don't knowingly collect data from younger children. If you believe we have, contact us.
• Policy Updates: This policy may be updated, then the "Last Updated" date above will change - please review it periodically. An email will be send to you if there are changes to how personal information is treated.
• Data Security: This website and Supabase use reasonable security measures. However, no online service is 100% secure.
